Testing Phil Smith Haircare

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair, it is quite fine, long and straight. Which can be great as I really don’t need to straighten it, however it can just hang there with little to zilch body in it. I have tried volumising shampoos and treatments in the past but found they weighed my hair down and made it look greasy, so I would have to wash it daily, something I don’t like doing, as this can have a negative affect on the hair. Phil Smith is a haircare range which I’ve seen before, but I haven’t picked up, so I was intrigued to try it.

First up is the Phil Smith BIG IT UP! Shampoo (£3.50) and Conditioner (£3.50). I discovered that this has a light texture to it, the shampoo is clear rather than creamy, something I personally prefer, and lathers well. I found it easy to rinse and it left my hair feeling nice and clean. I followed it up with the matching conditioner, and as instructed I only applied to the mid lengths and ends and I enjoyed how it made my hair feel. I could easily comb through my hair afterwards and I found that I could go 2-3 days between washes. It is marketed for people with fine, flat or fly-away hair and I would say it’s perfect for those hair types.

I was also sent a Phil Smith COCO-LICIOUS Coconut Water Leave-in Conditioner (£3.50), I have had real issues with leave in conditioners in the past, they really don’t like my hair, so I wasn’t holding out much hope for this one. I should’ve had more faith! I applied the Leave-in Conditioner after shampooing with the BIG IT UP Shampoo, and towel-dried my hair for a bit and then applied a 5p sized amount through my mid lengths and ends. My hair is quite long so I tend to use it sparingly. Again, it was easy to comb through and my hair looked much sleeker with less fly-always than I usually get.

Finally, I have the Phil Smith TOTAL TREAT Argon Oil Cream (£4.00), this is a finishing cream, which is to be applied to mid lengths and ends of wet hair and then styled as usual. I found this to be like several other products I own, it is nice but there was nothing that stood out particularly for me, however, the price point is good so it’s worth a try, and with it containing Argan Oil, which is renowned for its moisturising properties, this is perfect for use during colder months.

Final thoughts:
Overall, I was impressed with this range from Phil Smith , my stand out product has to be the COCO-LICIOUS, however I really liked interchanging the products, which isn’t always possible with some brands but I have continued to use the shampoo and leave in conditioner combo when washing my hair.

The Phil Smith Haircare collection is available instore and online at Sainsbury’s.
